Port Angeles Waterfront Center Field Arts & Events Hall

Port Angeles, Washington

Client: Port Angeles Waterfront Center
Architect: LMN Architects
Completion: 2023
Targeting LEED Silver®

Rooted in the city’s natural beauty, Field Arts & Events Hall serves as a new cultural hub for Port Angeles. The first of three buildings dedicated to the arts, culture, and science, Field Hall is designed to support multiple local arts organizations, elevating the arts and creativity within the community. Enhancing and nurturing the city’s broader creative community, Field Hall serves as a spectacular, community gathering place on the Port Angeles waterfront.

The striking natural environment of Port Angeles, framed by the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains, is captured within the building’s architectural gestures. Located on the second level, the public space provides wrap-around views of the city, the water, and the mountains. Carefully selected architectural materials reflect the surrounding forest and waterfront beach landscape connecting the building with its place.

The lighting of Field Arts & Event Hall aims to highlight the richness and warmth of the architectural materials to create an inviting and welcoming atmosphere. Linear fixtures integrated into the architecture illuminate the structural wood mullions. A constellation of light fixtures integrated into the wood slat ceiling, comprising three different fixture styles and sizes, increases in density closer to the theater to create visual interest, sparkle, and guide visitors into the theater.
