Orpheus and Apollo at LaGuardia

Terminal B, Flushing, New York

Client: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
Design Architect: Lubrano Ciavarra Architects
Executive Architect: HOK
Completion: 2023

The iconic “Orpheus and Apollo”, originally located in Lincoln Center’s Philharmonic Hall, has been refurbished, reconfigured, and relocated to LaGuardia Airport.

The lighting scheme employs custom architectural troughs equipped with adjustable super-spot LED fixtures that provide fingers of light, creating a play of brilliance throughout the sculpture and a dynamic viewing experience from multiple vantage points.

The use of highly efficient LED fixtures aids in lowering energy consumption and embodies the project’s sustainability principles. The repositioning and relighting of this sculpture to LGA’s Conference Center elevates passenger and visitor experiences.
